TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Avengers: Endgame has returned to the top of the global box office after its re-release, earning US$86 million worldwide and pushing its lifetime total to around US$2.88 billion, just US$39 million behind Avatar.

Avengers: Endgame returned to the big screen with the special re-release Avengers: Endgame Encore, bringing in US$86 million at the global box office. The total includes US$26 million from North America and US$60 million from international markets, as reported by Variety.

The additional earnings pushed Avengers: Endgame’s worldwide total to around US$2.88 billion. The 2019 Marvel film remains the second-highest-grossing movie of all time, putting it just US$39 million behind Avatar, which has earned US$2.9 billion.

According to The Walt Disney official site, The latest box-office boost comes as Endgame once again closes the gap with Avatar. The Marvel film originally surpassed Avatar in 2019 to become the highest-grossing movie of all time, before Avatar reclaimed the title following subsequent re-releases.

The film also returned to the top of the domestic and global box office charts over the weekend. In North America, Endgame has now earned around US$884 million, placing it third among the highest-grossing movies of all time in the domestic market.

Avengers: Endgame Encore also serves to build excitement for Marvel’s upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday. The special release included exclusive footage from the movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.

Avengers: Doomsday is once again directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously directed Avengers: Endgame. The film will also bring back several familiar characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Robert Downey Jr., who will not reprise his role as Tony Stark or Iron Man. Instead, he will play the villain Doctor Doom.

Along with the new footage, Endgame Encore also introduced Infinity Vision, Disney’s new certification for premium large-format theaters. The system sets specific technical standards for auditoriums, including large screens, laser projection and premium audio.
