Barry Keoghan has said he feels “better about myself” after undergoing a skin-tightening treatment.
The Oscar-nominated actor has previously been candid about the “nasty” comments he receives over his appearance from people online, which has become so severe that he is reluctant to leave his house.
The 34-year-old has since undergone a skin treatment, which, he said in a recent Instagram video, has made him “feel better about myself”.
“I look better,” he said. “I think it’s important to look after yourself inside and outside”.
As per the Dermaspa website, Xerf uses radio-frequency technology to tighten the skin and renew collagen.
This follows only months after Keoghan opened up about the online abuse he receives over his appearance, stating that it became so severe that he does not want to go outside.
“There’s a lot of hate online,” Keoghan said during a March episode of SiriusXM. “There’s a lot of abuse of how I look, and it’s kind of past the point of – you know, everyone goes through that… but it’s made me shy away.”
“It’s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside,” he said. “I say this being absolute pure and honest to you. It’s becoming a problem.”
The Banshees of Inisherin star noted that the online abuse has started to impact his work after it began “leaking” into his art. “Because then you don’t want to even be on screen anymore,” he said.
He said he is, however, “blessed” to have an “incredible” fan base. “People are so lovely out there. It’s really nice when you do Q&As and you talk to people, and you can be there with them and answer their questions and give them all of you. And that is the good side of it.”
Keoghan recently starred in the much-anticipated Peaky Blinders film alongside Cillian Murphy, and will be playing Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’s four-part cinematic event about The Beatles, set for release in 2026. Keoghan will also be reprising his role as the Joker in The Batman: Part II.
