BBC Dad returns with family update, 9 years after children crashed his live interview

Remember the “BBC Dad” whose serious live interview was hilariously derailed when his children wandered into the room? Well, you don’t have to wonder where those two kids are any more.

The man, Robert E Kelly, has now returned with a wholesome family update, nine years after that unforgettable moment catapulted him and his family to internet fame.

It all started back in 2017, Kelly was in the middle of a live BBC interview discussing North Korea when his then-four-year-old daughter Marion suddenly walked into his home office.

Her baby brother James soon followed in a walker, turning what was supposed to be a serious conversation into one of the internet’s most memorable moments.

As Kelly tried to continue speaking, his wife Jung-a Kim rushed into the room to collect the children, creating the now-famous sequence that was watched and shared around the world.

Nine years on, Kelly decided to revisit the memory by sharing photos of his family and giving followers a glimpse of how much his children have changed.

In his post on X, Kelly shared pictures from his birthday, a hiking trip with James, Marion looking noticeably more grown-up, and a sweet moment with his wife at a street festival.

“Some BBC Dad content. It's been awhile,” he wrote, before revealing just how quickly the years had passed. “James is now 10; Marion is 13.”

The update offered a rather surreal reminder of just how much time has passed since the children accidentally interrupted their father's interview.

The post also had people reminiscing about the original BBC interview, with several followers saying they could still remember Marion and James as toddlers. Others marvelled at seeing the children as teenagers after having first watched them become internet-famous at such a young age.

“Wow, I recall your interview! Time flies. Your kids are now teenagers!” one person commented.

Another said they still remembered the children from the original interview and were amazed at how quickly they had grown up.
