Bears and Panthers made NFL history in their Week 1 game - Bears Wire

If you love offense, then you better have watched the Chicago Bears defeat the Carolina Panthers, 59-37, in what was an historic win for Chicago.

The Bears and Panthers combined for 45 points in the first half, which was tied for the most in a Week 1 opener in NFL history. But they also broke the record for the most points in a season opener in NFL history. The Bears actually were not done scoring once they broke the record, adding another touchdown from running back D’Andre Swift to make the score 59-37, combining for 96 points. 

Chicago’s 59 points in this game is the most they have had since 1980 when they put up 61 points. The Bears have only hit 60 or more points twice, the other time coming in 1965, making this the third-highest scoring game in Chicago history.

Chicago had six rushing touchdowns in this game -- three from running back D’Andre Swift, two from quarterback Caleb Williams and one from running back Kyle Monangai, which came on a 61-yard run. Swift averaged nearly seven yards per carry, which is similar to what he did against the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

Williams also had two passing touchdowns -- one to tight end Cole Kmet and one to receiver Jahdae Walker. It seems safe to say this is the best game Williams has played in his young NFL career. Chicago definitely looks like a team that could break the NFL record as the highest scoring team in history.
