Bears host former third-round cornerback for a tryout - Bears Wire

The Chicago Bears are banged up heading into a Monday Night Football showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles, where there are some notable injuries including quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent, as well as cornerback Tyrique Stevenson.

Stevenson suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and head coach Ben Johnson said that the former second-round pick is "week-to-week" with his injury. On Thursday, the Bears hosted former third-round cornerback Elijah Jones for a tryout, per the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Jones was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 90th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he spent his first two seasons with Arizona before being waived this summer as part of final roster cuts. The New York Giants signed Jones to their practice squad on Sept. 1 before releasing him roughly three weeks later. Jones appeared in 10 games with the Cardinals in 2025, where he totaled three tackles and two pass breakups.

It's also worth noting that the Bears didn't bring a kicker in for a tryout, which is encouraging considering Cairo Santos was listed as a non-participant on the Thursday injury report with a hip inquiry.

Elsewhere, Chicago brought back long snapper Beau Gardner to the practice squad after waiving him for veteran Scott Daly this week. In a corresponding roster move, the Bears released wide receiver Scotty Miller from the practice squad.
