MP for Belagavi Jagadish Shettar inaugurated Swachhata Shramadan at the Cantonment Board in Belagavi on Thursday, under the theme “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath”. He planted a sapling on the occasion.
The cleanliness drive began at the Gandhi Circle on Vengurla Road.
Mr. Shettar said that the campaign’s objective is to promote cleanliness, responsible waste management, awareness regarding the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and active public participation.
The programme witnessed participation from representatives of the Indian Medical Association, NGOs, banks, self-help groups, charitable organisations, students and teachers from various schools, Cantonment Board officers and staff, media personnel and members of the public.
Chief Executive Officer of the Cantonment Board Manchalwar Sudam Harivijay, former MLAs Sanjay Patil and Anil Benake, former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath, local leaders, ward members and former elected members of the Cantonment Board were also present, said a release.
