According to a report by the Flemish public broadcaster VRT, Erens, a member of the far-right Vlaams Belang party, stated that yesterday, around 5:00 p.m. local time, after finishing his work at the Flemish Parliament’s annex building, he went to the restroom but was unable to exit because the door lock jammed.

Erens noted that his colleagues had already left the building and that he could not call for help because he had not brought his phone with him.

Erens, who was able to leave the restroom around 6:00 a.m. local time when a janitor opened the door, said he went to the hospital for a checkup due to oxygen deprivation but added that he is doing well.
