Ben Johnson reacts to Bears QB Tyson Bagent's performance vs Jets - Bears Wire
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson did not hesitate to start Tyson Bagent at quarterback for Chicago’s game against the New York Jets, despite Case Keenum having one of the best games of his career in Week 3 versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Statistically, Bagent did not play as well as Keenum did last Monday. Bagent finished the game with 268 passing yards, no touchdowns and an interception. He also had three interceptions negated by penalty. The one interception that did count was the first interception for New York since the 2024 season. Still, Johnson came away impressed with Bagent's performance in the win.
"Tyson has earned the right to be our No. 2 quarterback," Johnson said. "I have a lot of confidence in him. I thought he played really well today, efficient with the football. I thought he had a great job with the operation."
The Bears won this game on the ground with Kyle Monangai, who had the best game of his career with 30 rushes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. His scores were the only touchdowns of the game for Chicago, making it their second game of the season without a passing touchdown.
Given Bagent served as the starting quarterback for the Bears even though Keenum technically got the start, it would seem like Bagent will be Chicago’s starting quarterback for their Week 5 game against the Green Bay Packers. If that ends up being the case, it would be the first time Bagent plays against the Packers, who have the worst rushing offense in the NFL through the first four weeks.
