Bende Forum Endorses Otti, Anyaso for 2027 Elections, Rejects Third Term - THISDAYLIVE
Bende Forum–New Abia has endorsed Abia State Governor Alex Otti for a second term and Labour Party aspirant Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso for the Bende Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsements were contained in a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area, on October 25, 2026.
The forum said its resolutions were informed by the need to promote good governance, equity, political inclusion and sustainable development in Bende and Abia State.
It urged voters to support Otti’s re-election, saying his administration had demonstrated a commitment to governance and development. The forum argued that a second term would allow the state to consolidate what it described as progress recorded under his leadership.
The group also endorsed Anyaso for the Bende federal constituency seat, citing its assessment of the candidates’ antecedents, experience and suitability for the position.
It said the constituency needed responsive and effective representation capable of advancing the interests of its communities at the National Assembly.
The forum called on residents to prioritise the development of the constituency over narrow political interests.
In another resolution, the group rejected third-term bids for elected representatives in Bende, including members of the Abia State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
The communiqué criticised political actors who, according to the forum, had previously opposed third-term representation but were now seeking another term in office.
It said political leaders should remain consistent with their stated principles and commitments, adding that elective positions should provide opportunities for broader participation.
The forum maintained that equity, accountability and fairness should guide decisions on political representation in Bende.
It also urged residents, community leaders, youths and other stakeholders to support what it described as a common agenda for unity, inclusive development and effective representation.
The communiqué was signed by the forum’s chairman and secretary, alongside the chairman of Bende Local Government Area and other community representatives.
The forum said it would continue to promote responsible political engagement and equitable representation as Abia State prepares for the 2027 elections.
