Bengaluru CEO shares friend's layoff agony: New house, baby on the way
A Bengaluru-based CEO has shared a post highlighting how job losses can affect employees and their families beyond the immediate loss of income.
βLayoffs are so brutal,β Debjit Sen, founder and CEO of Engrow, said in his post on X as he shared the experience of an old friend who was recently laid off after buying a new house and while he and his wife were expecting their second child.
βMy old friend was laid off recently. He has just bought a new house, and he and his wife are expecting their second child. Now he doesnβt know how he is going to manage the EMIs and everything else,β Debjit said in his post, adding that layoffs were not just about losing a job but could disrupt a person's entire life.
βYou can spend years building a career, and suddenly, one email can put your entire life into uncertainty. Thatβs the part that scares me the most,β he said.
The post drew responses from users who shared their own experiences and offered advice on dealing with financial uncertainty.
One user highlighted the importance of financial planning before taking on major commitments.
βThis may sound difficult to hear. But this is exactly why everyone should do their financial risk profiling before taking up big liabilities,β the user wrote.
Another user shared a personal account of dealing with multiple crises after losing their job.
βI lost my job earlier this year, and while dealing with that, my dad was suddenly hospitalised. Then I had a cardiac attack and I honestly thought my life was over,β the user wrote.
βIβm still trying to get back on my feet. Itβs been one thing after another, and the struggle just continues,β he added.
While layoffs are often discussed in terms of numbers and organisational changes, their impact is felt in the everyday lives of employees and their families, who are left to navigate uncertain futures.- EndsPublished By: Raya GhoshPublished On: Sep 16, 2026 19:10 IST
