Bescom awarded ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for information security

Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) has been awarded the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS), strengthening the organisation’s information security framework and its ability to protect critical information and digital systems.

The ISO/IEC certificate was formally handed over to Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Highlighting the importance of cybersecurity, Mr. George said: “The ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification is an important step towards strengthening information security and cyber resilience in Bescom. As the power sector increasingly relies on digital systems and technology, protecting critical information and ensuring uninterrupted operations has become essential. This certification demonstrates Bescom’s commitment to adopting globally recognised information security practices and strengthening the security of its digital infrastructure.”

He noted that the department addressed major gaps that were identified and audit observations through the timely implementation and verification of corrective actions, enabling the successful closure of the certification audit.
