Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş faced each other at Chobani Stadium in a cautious opening to the highly anticipated Istanbul derby. Both sides struggled with possession and made a number of mistakes during the opening 25 minutes.

Fenerbahçe broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Milan Škriniar found the net to put the hosts ahead. However, their lead lasted only 12 minutes, with Rıdvan Yılmaz equalising for Beşiktaş in the 38th minute. The teams went into halftime level at 1-1.

Fenerbahçe started the second half slowly and came under increasing pressure as Beşiktaş created a series of dangerous chances. Goalkeeper Ederson kept his side in the game with several important saves, but he was eventually beaten in the 73rd minute when Dušan Vlahović put Beşiktaş 2-1 ahead.

Fenerbahçe were unable to find a response in the remaining minutes, allowing Beşiktaş to claim all three points and secure victory in the first derby of the season.

The derby also featured a tribute to those who lost their lives in recent ship accidents off Northern Cyprus and Silivri.

Players and spectators observed a minute’s silence before kick-off in memory of the victims of the two incidents.
