Gitte Madhav Vitthalrao, the Chief Executive Officer of Bidar Zilla Panchayat, visited the VB-G RAM G worksite of Chambol village in Bidar taluk on Wednesday to review the construction of Continuous Contour Trenches (CCT) - a watershed project designed to trap rainwater and recharge the groundwater table.
In a rare hands-on demonstration, the officer himself stepped into the trench with workers under the VB-G RAM G site and dug alongside them. He then showed labourers the precise method for measuring the earthwork per person, a technique that directly determines daily wage attendance and ensures transparency in payments.
During the inspection, Mr. Vitthalrao verified worker attendance through the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app, a digital tool mandated for attendance at worksites to verify genuine workers at the site.
Addressing workers at the site, the CEO said explained that the contour trench structures will help capture rainwater, a critical intervention in this drought-prone region that is expected to improve the watertable and support forest plantation growth in surrounding Chambol villages and forest area.
The CEO directed the Chambol Gram Panchayat Development Officer to intensify awareness campaigns to bring new workers into the work to improve workers’ economy and increase total man-day generation.
He also highlighted individual benefits available under the VB-G RAM G scheme, including assistance for building individual household toilets, cattle sheds for farmers, and soak pits for the primary storage of domestic wastewater.
To combat rising temperatures and ecological degradation, Mr. Vitthalrao said roadside plantation drives must be included in the annual action plan and executed across villages to promote a greener environment.
