Bihar man climbs on top of overbridge, cops halt traffic and bring crane to rescue him

A young man climbed high onto the arched iron structure of an overbridge in Patna on Tuesday, leaving people gathered below fearing that he might jump.

What followed, however, was a tense 20-minute rescue operation with police eventually using a crane to bring him safely back down. The incident took place at the Chowk Shikarpur overbridge in Patna City.

After spotting the man perched on the bridge’s iron framework, locals alerted the police, prompting a team from the Chowk police station to rush to the spot.

The young man had climbed several feet above the road, leaving onlookers watching anxiously from below. With the structure too high to reach safely, the police brought in a crane and began working on a way to get him down without putting him or the rescuers at further risk.

The rescue continued for around 20 to 25 minutes. After carefully reaching and securing the young man, the team managed to bring him down safely. The dramatic rescue also brought traffic on the overbridge to a complete halt.

Vehicles were stopped on both sides as long queues formed, while a large crowd gathered to watch the operation. Police personnel had to manage the gathering as they continued with the rescue.

Police identified the man as Jaiprakash Sao, a native of Jamui district who currently lived in a rented house in Patna’s Dhavalpura area. He worked as an auto-rickshaw driver.

Why Jaiprakash climbed onto the bridge’s iron structure remains unclear.
