Bihar teen dies at juvenile home after falling in toilet, family suspects foul play
A 16-year-old boy lodged at a juvenile home in Bihar’s Kaimur district died under suspicious circumstances shortly after returning from a court hearing, triggering anger among his family members and local residents.
The deceased, son of Nizamuddin Rain, a resident of Ward 10 in Chhawani locality of Bhabua. Following his death, a large number of people gathered at the hospital, with family members demanding an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to the deceased's father and local representative Amjad Ali, the teenager was in good health and had no apparent illness. The family said the boy met them during his court appearance at around noon and spoke to them normally.
They said that after the court hearing, he was taken back to the juvenile home. Within around 30 minutes to an hour, the family was informed that he had died.
The teen's family has raised questions over the circumstances of his death and claimed that he may have been killed. They have also expressed suspicion about possible involvement of police and administrative officials.
The family has demanded strict action against those responsible and called for a thorough investigation into the teenager’s death.
The allegations led to tension at the hospital, where relatives and local residents gathered after receiving news of the death.
The administration has, however, given a different account of what happened.
Bhabua Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amit Kumar said the juvenile home administration had submitted a written report stating that he went to the toilet after returning from court.
According to the report, the teenager did not come out for a considerable period of time, prompting other children at the facility to inform the authorities. When the door was opened, the boy was found injured inside.
Based on the initial report, authorities suspect that he may have slipped and fallen in the toilet, sustaining injuries that proved fatal.

Police officials said the victim's body has been sent for a postmortem examination. A forensic examination is also being conducted, and authorities said the exact cause of death would become clear only after the reports are received.
