Billy Evans is baring all to his followers on X — and he’s taking the opportunity to clear up his portrayal in You Can See Everything, the hit documentary about his partner Elizabeth Holmes.
In a recent X post, Evans invited viewers to “AMA” (ask me anything), with the addendum: “Needs to be legally permissable [sic].”
Evans, who has been engaged to convicted fraudster Holmes since 2018 and has two children with her, was asked on X to dispel what he believed to be the biggest misconception of the movie, to which he replied, “That I somehow control Liz.”
“Anyone who actually knows her would find that idea hilarious,” the heir to the Evans Hotel Group added. “She’s fiercely independent, strongwilled, and my best friend. We are partners in every sense. We challenge each other, disagree, and face the world together. Her closest friends are also some of my closest friends. If I ever mistreated her, they’d have my head.”
After the movie’s release, some viewers had interpreted that Evans was controlling Holmes. In it, he is shown to be in charge of Holmes’s social media accounts while she is incarcerated; he appears to negotiate a financial deal with A24 without her knowledge, and he reveals he has power of attorney.
“We talk about everything, including X. Nothing happened behind her back,” Evans wrote on the topic. “The POA was simply the legal mechanism that allowed me to act on her behalf while she’s incarcerated. It was not a substitute for her consent.”
When asked if he regrets agreeing to the documentary, Evans wrote, “Not at all.”
Evans also said they celebrated documentary maker Nathan Fielder’s birthday during production, “around the table in Del Mar with my family.” He said Fielder missed the Time 100 dinner — the magazine named the comedian one of the 100 most influential people in 2023 — so they celebrated that together as a group.
He also addressed another burning question from viewers, specifically the accusation that he was high on cocaine during the filming of the documentary.
“Never been a fan,” Evans said of the drug. “Solo parenting 2 toddlers you are sick approx 75% of days. Allergies in Austin TX are no joke,” he wrote.
The “ask me anything” has also made way for Evans to discuss his interests and music tastes. He called rapper Kendrick Lamar a “generational” talent and said that popstar Chappell Roan performed “one of the best live sets I have ever seen.”
Fielder and director Lance Oppenheim’s documentary follows Holmes and her family in the month before she began her prison sentence in 2023. Holmes, 42, was convicted of fraud in 2022 after claiming that her startup, Theranos, had developed a revolutionary medical device that was able to diagnose a range of conditions with a few drops of blood.
Holmes was sentenced to 11 years in prison and started serving her time at a Texas facility in May 2023.
The documentary has received rave reviews and broken box office records, earning a staggering $15 million opening weekend box office debut across North America, which was more than double its $7 million projection.
You Can See Everything is the highest-grossing nonmusical documentary since Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004, and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive across the board.
