BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Sunday questioned Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s alleged ‘silence’ over the efforts being made by the Karnataka government to construct a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu.
Referring to a statement by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar that efforts were being made to acquire land for the construction of the Mekedatu dam, Mr. Nagenthran criticised both the Karnataka government’s actions and the Vijay-led TVK government’s silence on the issue.
“Karnataka is being ruled by the Congress, which is an ally of the TVK. Despite the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s directive, it [Karnataka] has not released water to Tamil Nadu... it intends to destroy the livelihood of the farmers of Tamil Nadu. Why is Mr. Vijay not opposing the Congress in Karnataka?” he asked.
