BJP seeks speedy removal of eligible lands from 22-A prohibited list

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh president P.V.N. Madhav has urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to expedite the removal of eligible private and freehold lands from the prohibited properties list under Section 22-A and restore registration facilities for their owners.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Mr. Madhav said several farmers and landowners were unable to sell or register their properties as they continued to be included in the prohibited list. He said errors and reliance on outdated records had resulted in eligible private and freehold lands remaining on the list, causing hardship to landowners.

He welcomed the State government’s efforts to scientifically review the list and remove ineligible properties. Referring to G.O.Ms.No.444 of the Revenue (Registration-I) Department, dated July 22, 2026, and G.O.Ms.No.588 of the Revenue Department, dated September 15, 2026, he urged the government to implement the orders immediately and issue clear guidelines for maintaining, verifying and correcting the database.

Mr. Madhav sought a comprehensive review of duplicate, outdated and unsupported entries relating to the same survey number and their removal wherever necessary.

He also sought a fixed timeframe in every district for disposing of pending applications and strengthening the online system to enable landowners to know why their properties had been included in the prohibited list and the Government Order, gazette notification or other record supporting such inclusion.

While stressing the need to protect government, endowment, Wakf, irrigation and other lands that are legally required to be protected, he called for a clear scrutiny mechanism to ensure that eligible private lands did not remain on the list.

He further sought fixed timelines for enquiry, decision-making and appeals, immediate restoration of registration facilities for lands already verified as legally eligible, and publication of district-wise details of properties removed from the list.

Mr. Madhav said land was an important asset for farmers’ financial security, family requirements and future generations. He urged the government to remove unnecessary registration restrictions on eligible properties while continuing to protect lands that are legally required to remain under the restrictions.
