Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers staged a black flag protest against Excise Minister M. Liju in Keralam’s Alappuzha on Friday (October 2, 2026), as the party continued to target the Ministers of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government in reaction to a similar demonstration by Youth Congress workers against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The BJP protesters waved black flags at Mr. Liju when he arrived on the premises of the Alappuzha municipal office to inaugurate ‘Nirmala Puthuyuga Suchitwa Keralam’ campaign at the district level. The Minister’s convoy was intercepted by the protesters at the entrance of the office. The protesters, led by BJP district general secretary Arun Anirudhan, were arrested and removed from the scene by the police.
The BJP has been blocking the vehicles of the State Ministers and waving black flags at them for several days since the Youth Congress activists staged a black flag protest against Mr. Shah in Kollam on September 26, as part of the Congress’ nationwide agitation seeking the removal of Gyanesh Kumar as the Chief Election Commissioner.
