Blinkit warehouse in Gujarat's Rajkot faces action after 596 kg spoiled stock found

A routine food safety inspection at a Blinkit warehouse in Rajkot uncovered nearly 596 kg of spoiled vegetables and fruits, along with other lapses, prompting civic authorities to destroy the stock and impose a Rs 10,000 fine.

A team from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s Food Department inspected the Blinkit warehouse on Sadhu Vaswani Road, where officials found a large quantity of vegetables and fruits that had reportedly been stored for a long time and had gone bad.

The inspection also revealed that vegetables and fruits being packed for sale did not carry a ‘use by’ date.

The spoiled stock, weighing around 596 kg, was loaded into a municipal tipper van and destroyed at the spot.

Officials also found lapses in cleanliness at the store, following which the company was fined Rs 10,000 and also issued a notice.

Rajkot Municipal Corporation Health Officer Dr Jayesh Vakani confirmed the action and said an improvement notice had been issued to the company.
