BMKG Warns of 4-Meter High Waves in Bali Waters - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bali office of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned the public of a four-meter high wave risk this week.
"Surface wind patterns in Bali are predicted to reach 25 knots," forecaster Maria Octorina said in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday, as quoted from Antara.
Wind movement is one of the drivers of high waves, which are predicted to blow from the south-east from October 3 to 6, with speeds of up to 25 knots, or around 46 kilometers per hour.
Besides the waters south of Bali, high waves of up to four meters could occur in the southern Lombok Strait.
Meanwhile, high waves of up to 2.5 meters are predicted to occur in the northern Lombok Strait, the Badung Strait, and the southern Bali Strait.
BBMKG Denpasar explained that wind and sea wave conditions pose a risk to shipping safety.
Ferry operators are advised to be alert for wind speeds reaching 21 knots, or approximately 38 kilometers per hour, and waves reaching 2.5 meters.
Furthermore, barge operators are advised to exercise caution when winds exceed 16 knots, or approximately 29 kilometers per hour, and waves reaching 1.5 meters.
Fishing boat operators are advised to be wary of wind speeds exceeding 15 knots, or approximately 27 kilometers per hour, and waves reaching 1.25 meters.
The public is advised to monitor the latest weather information from BMKG through social media platforms @infobmkg, @bmkgbali, and the Info BMKG app.
