BMKG Warns of Local Downpours Despite Dry Season
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast light to heavy rain with thunderstorms across several major cities in Indonesia on Monday, September 28, 2026.
According to the weather forecast posted on the official Instagram account @infoBMKG, thunderstorms are likely to occur in Jambi, Pontianak, and Tanjung Selor.
Meanwhile, moderate rain is predicted for Medan and Nabire. Light rain is likely to occur in Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bandung, Mamuju, Palu, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya.
For Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, sunny to partly cloudy weather is predicted for Serang, Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Denpasar, Mataram, and Kupang.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta has the potential to experience hazy air. In Sumatra, Banda Aceh is predicted to be cloudy, while Bengkulu, Palembang, and Pangkalpinang have the potential to experience hazy air.
Bandar Lampung is expected to see smoke or haze. In Kalimantan, hazy air is likely to occur in Samarinda and Banjarmasin, while Palangkaraya is likely to experience smoke or haze.
In Sulawesi, Makassar, Gorontalo, and Manado are forecast to be cloudy. Meanwhile, Kendari is likely to experience smoke or haze.
In Maluku and Papua, Ternate, Ambon, and Merauke are forecast to be cloudy to partly cloudy.
BMKG has warned fishers and marine transport users to remain vigilant of potential high waves reaching 2.5 to 4 meters in the Indian Ocean from west Aceh to Lampung and the Indian Ocean south of Banten to East Nusa Tenggara.
Coastal communities are also advised to adjust their activities to high tide conditions due to the potential for tidal flooding along the coasts of North Sumatra, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, and Maluku.
The BMKG warns that although dry weather remains dominant, local heavy rain is still possible.
The public is also asked to be aware of the risk of drought and forest and land fires and to monitor the latest weather information through the official BMKG channel.
