With passenger demand expected to rise ahead of the Gandhi Jayanti holiday and long weekend, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is stepping in to support the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) by deploying 150 additional buses for outstation services on Thursday.

As per an order issued by BMTC on Wednesday, the additional services will be operated from the Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) and Mysuru Road Bus Station to cater to passengers travelling from Bengaluru to various parts of Karnataka.

Of the 150 buses, 100 will be operated from KBS after 8 p.m., while another 50 will be operated from the Mysuru Road Bus Station after 5 p.m.

From KBS, the additional services will include buses to Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Hosadurga, Hosapete, Ballari, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Dharmasthala. The Mysuru Road Bus Station will have additional services to Mysuru and Malavalli/Kollegal.

The move is aimed at easing the pressure on KSRTC services during the holiday period and ensuring that passengers are able to travel to their destinations amid increased demand, according to officials.

BMTC has also directed its divisional traffic officials to coordinate with KSRTC officials and deploy additional buses to routes witnessing higher passenger demand and crowding. The arrangement comes ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, followed by the weekend, when a rise in inter-city travel from Bengaluru is expected. BMTC has been deploying its buses to support KSRTC during long weekends and holiday periods in recent years, helping cater to the surge in passenger demand.
