Rizvi has expressed condolences over the death of bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi.

In a condolence message on Friday, he prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and called Khalidi an “honest and courageous journalist who set an example in his work”.

“At a time when journalism is free, the departure of a brave journalist like him is certainly a sorrow,” Rizvi said.

Doctors pronounced Khalidi dead at 2:23pm London time on Friday.

The veteran journalist, who pioneered bringing Bangladesh's news services into the digital world, was 59.

He had been admitted to St Bartholomew's Hospital on Thursday night after suffering a brain haemorrhage.

His family said Khalidi had been in London on a personal visit when he suddenly fell ill.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Local Government Minister Abdul Moyeen Khan, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Social Welfare Minister AZM Zahid Hossain and Water Resources Minister Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee also mourned his death.

Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Information Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, State Minister Yasser Khan Choudhury, Foreign Affairs State Minister Shama Obaed Islam and Shairul Kabir Khan, a BNP media cell member and advisory editor of Shomoyer Alo, expressed grief as well.
