Breaking: Suspect in Mount Edgecombe police murders shot dead in Inanda - IOL
A suspect wanted in connection with the killing of two Crime Intelligence officers in Mount Edgecombe was fatally wounded during a police operation in Inanda, while a Special Task Force member was injured.
A suspect wanted for the murder of two Crime Intelligence members ambushed in Mount Edgecombe has been shot and killed in Inanda.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said a member of the SAPS Special Task Force was injured during the Friday morning operation. Police are still at the scene in Inanda.
This morning's development follows the ambush and shooting of two policemen in Mount Edgecombe on April 30. Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo and Captain Louis Nel, both attached to Crime Intelligence, were travelling in an unmarked state vehicle when unknown gunmen opened fire on them. Β
The dramatic shooting incident in Mount Edgecombe was caught on CCTV footage. Nel died at the scene, while Khuzwayo died later in hospital.
IOL reported at the time that the men, attached to the South African Police Service Crime Intelligence Unit, were travelling along Flanders Drive when they came under attack.
"KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene alongside security partners, where they found a vehicle riddled with bullet holes and two injured officers," KZN VIP spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said.
