BRICS joint statement agreed upon, to be issued shortly

Indian negotiators have managed to reach a consensus, sources confirmed to The Hindu, indicating that differences between Iran, UAE and Saudi Arabia over the wording of paragraph relating to the ongoing war have been resolved.
Officials said that the BRICS countries had reached an understanding “on all aspects” over a joint statement to be released shortly. This is the first time the BRICS grouping founded by Russia, China, India, Brazil and South Africa that now includes UAE and Iran, as well as Saudi Arabia, is meeting after the US-Israel strikes on Iran and the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khameini in February this year.
Iran’s retaliation against its Gulf neighbours, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia had set up discordant notes at all BRICS meetings in the run-up to the Summit being held in Delhi this weekend.
The negotiations were completed on Saturday (September 12, 2026) afternoon, with India’s negotiating team led by Secretary (Economic Relations) Sudhakar Dalela and officials from the Ministry of External Affairs.
However, the government has been engaging all levels with the 11-member BRICS leadership to try and forge the joint statement. On Friday (September 11), Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meetings with Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian, and on Saturday (September 12) with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Khalid bin Mohamad bin Zayed Al Nahyan are understood to have pushed the two sides together.
