Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy and Kalvakuntla Sanjay have alleged that Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has allowed about 1,000 tmc ft of Godavari water to flow down to Andhra Pradesh, despite having an opportunity to lift the required quantities from the Medigadda Barrage and by operating Kannepally pump-house.
Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on Friday (October 30, 2026), they said that the impact of El Nino was severe because of the Chief Minister’s over confidence and his petty-mindedness that lifting the water with Kaleshwaram pump-houses would bring good name only to KCR (former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao).
Even on Friday, nearly 13,000 cusecs flowed down from Medigadda Barrage site, but the government appeared to have no intentions to utilise the water to reduce the El Nino impact. The government's failure to lift water from Kaleshwaram pump-houses had also forced it to announce a crop holiday for the Rabi season. If people in Hyderabad were penalised for wasting water on car washing, how much penalty should be imposed on Mr. Revanth Reddy for his failure to draw available water.
They demanded that the government pay compensation of ₹50,000 per acre for crop withered due to lack of water for irrigation and start lifting water from Kannepally at least now by making some ad hoc arrangements till a cofferdam was arranged in the upstream of Medigadda.
