An alleged confrontation between a private bus driver and two-wheeler riders near Edappally Toll on Wednesday morning (September 30, 2026) has resulted in the Kalamassery police registering two separate first information reports against both parties based on mutual complaints lodged against each other.
According to the two-wheeler riders, including a woman, the private bus knocked their scooter from behind thrice. When questioned, the bus driver allegedly assaulted and verbally abused them. The driver, Muhammed Riyas, 44, has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 110 (attempt to culpable homicide) and 296(b) (obscene acts and songs).
The driver, on his part, accused the two-wheeler riders of picking a quarrel with him after taking offence at his using the horn while attempting to overtake their scooter. They allegedly verbally abused him and struck him with a helmet. The woman reportedly stood in front of the bus, obstructing its passage, and even climbed onto the front of the vehicle before abusing the driver.
The scooter riders have been booked under BNS Sections 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation), 296(b) (obscene acts and songs), and 3(5) (common intention).
