Call for the state to consider further investigations into Sibanyoni - EWN
Advocacy Group Public Interest South Africa said that taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni showed contempt for the state, during his 2024 meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Video-evidence led at the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday revealed details of the meeting in Kwandebele during an ANC campaign.
Sibanyoni called for access to a stake in bus company Putco, suggesting that he would otherwise interfere in their operations.Β
A year after Sibanyoniβs meeting with Ramaphosa (sibanyoni to ramaphosa) when you find someone wanting to interfere with the Putco business, you must know it is us. Don't put the red tape.
Over 50 Putco buses were torched and more than 300 cases of disruptive incidents were recorded.
Sibanyoni denies he was behind this but Public Interest SA Chairperson Tebogo Khaas suggests Sibanyoni flaunted his disregard for the law when he met with the president.
"If there was ever a single instance where contempt was shown to the state, through our president and to us as citizens of this country, it is that speech whereupon he just showed the impunity that he enjoys. So it is incumbent on the president to actually make a statement and pronounce his position."
The Presidency is yet to respond to EWNβs queries for comment.
Meanwhile Khaas called for the state to consider further investigations into sibanyoni.
