The District Development Committee has asked heads of various government departments to come up with innovative ideas and new project proposals aimed at ensuring greater public benefit from development activities.
The direction was issued at a meeting of the committee chaired by District Collector M.S. Madhavikutty at the collectorate here on Saturday. The Collector asked officials to prepare and submit practical projects that could be implemented in coordination with different departments without delay.
Parakkal Abdulla, MLA, raised concerns over the delay in completing the Perincherikkadavu regulator-cum-bridge, the construction of which began in 2020. He said the delay was allowing saline water to enter nearby areas and could affect drinking water supply in the Vadakara region. He also sought steps to expedite the construction of the Lokanarkavu museum and the Kuttiady bypass.
K.K. Rema, MLA, said the ongoing National Highway construction in the Vadakara area was causing difficulties for commuters. The failure to repair damaged service roads was adding to the hardship faced by residents, she said. She also sought urgent measures to resume works at Thazhe Angadi under the Thalassery Heritage Project and complete them by mid-October.
Fathima Thahiliya, MLA, sought the urgent completion of the distribution of title deeds in the Nochad, Chakkittappara, Chembanoda and Changaroth villages in the Perambra assembly constituency.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of works to ensure the safety of families living along the altered course of the Kadantharapuzha and the process of handing over land belonging to the C.K.G. College to the Perambra taluk hospital.
The utilisation of funds under various government department projects and the progress of projects linked to the Nava Kerala Sadas were also reviewed. Additional District Magistrate K. Shareena, District Planning Officer P.R. Rathnesh and heads of various departments attended the meeting.
