Cape Town racing driver Marcel Angel dies after crash - EWN
A fatal accident at the Killarney Raceway in Cape Town has claimed the life of one of the drivers participating in a race.
A statement from Motorsport SA later confirmed that despite the best efforts of medical personnel on scene, the 62-year-old Marcel Angel succumbed to his injuries.
Angel was a well-known name in motoring in Cape Town and was the owner of the Autohaus Angel car dealership in Milnerton.
He was one of the participants in the extreme festival at the Killarney race track in his Ferrari 488 GT3.
Tragedy struck during his race when his car collided with a wall at the end of the back straight.Β
The impact of the crash caused the car to burst into flames.
According to a statement from Motorsport SA, medical personnel and officials were immediately on the scene, but Angel succumbed to his injuries.
The rest of the extreme festival event was cancelled out of respect for Angel's family.
