Cape Town shooting leaves three dead and one wounded - IOL

Three people were shot and killed on Sunday evening.

Police in Cape Town are investigating the deaths of three people following a shooting incident in Phumleni in Lingelethu-West. 

The shooting incident took place on Sunday, September 20. 

The Western Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, said four people were shot during the shooting incident. 

“At approximately 10.20pm, police responded to a shooting at an informal dwelling in NB63, Phumleni. On arrival, members found four males with gunshot wounds inside the dwelling. Three victims, aged between 27 and 36, were declared deceased at the scene, while a 38-year-old male was transported to a medical facility for treatment,” Traut said. 

Serious Violent Crime detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“Forensic experts are processing the crime scene and investigators are following up on available leads. No arrests have been made at this stage,” Traut said.

In a separate incident, a suspect is expected to appear ion the Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday for contravening the Firearms Control Act. 

According to police, Public Order Police (POP) responded to a complaint of a pointing of firearm complaint in Vraagom Street, Vredenburg, on Friday, September 18, 2026. 

The members searched the premises and found a .38 Special revolver belonging to the owner who fail to renew his firearm license.
