Capital to have three municipal corporations

Islamabad has formally been divided into three municipal corporations, or towns, under the new local government law, with one municipal town council established under each of the capital's three National Assembly constituencies. There will now be three mayors and six deputy mayors in Islamabad. The three bodies have been named Municipal Town Council-I, Municipal Town Council-II and Municipal Town Council-III. The total number of union councils in the three municipal towns has also been increased to 130. Municipal Town Council-I will have 43 union councils, Municipal Town Council-II 45 and Municipal Town Council-III 42. A total of seven objections were filed before the Delimitation Authority, Regional Election Commissioner Rawalpindi, against the delimitation of blocks of all 130 union councils of Islamabad. The hearing of all the objections was completed the other day and the authority reserved its decisions, which will be announced according to the Election Commission schedule.
