Car stolen at King Shaka Airport leads police to Westville home with two stolen cars - IOL

A Westville man was arrested on Thursday after police found two stolen cars at his house, one of which he allegedly bought from a dealership using fraudulent documents.

The 28-year-old was arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property after police found a Toyota and a BMW at the premises. 

Police spokesperson Lt-Col Amanda van Wyk said the arrest followed the theft of a car at King Shaka International Airport several days earlier.

"The Border Policing Reaction Team, together with detectives attached to King Shaka International Airport, followed up on information received following the theft of a motor vehicle at the airport several days ago," she said.

"The information led the team to an identified address in Westville, where the suspect was apprehended."

The second car was linked to a separate theft reported at Midrand police station in 2025, raising the possibility that the suspect could be linked to more than one car theft.

Van Wyk said the vehicle had been positively linked to that case, which was reported more than 500km away in Midrand in 2025.

She said police also discovered the vehicle had been bought from a motor dealership using fraudulent documents.

"Further investigations revealed that fraudulent documentation was presented to a motor vehicle dealership to purchase the vehicle," Van Wyk said.

The man is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates' Court soon.

Police are still working out whether he was acting alone.

"Investigations remain ongoing to determine whether the suspect may be linked to a car theft syndicate," Van Wyk said.
