Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose are engaged: ‘Blessed to love you’

SET TO WED. Filipino gymnastics star Carlos Yulo gives Chloe San Jose two engagement rings.

MANILA, Philippines – The secret is out!

Carlos Yulo on Monday, September 28, revealed his engagement to longtime girlfriend Chloe San Jose just days after he won a pair of gold medals for the country in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.

Yulo popped the question on December 18, 2025, in Tagaytay, but the couple and their families kept their engagement private. The couple made it public nine months after. 

“And all I can say and all I can feel, is that I am truly blessed. Blessed to love you. Blessed to be loved by you. Blessed to have you as my fiancé and, soon, as my forever,” Yulo wrote on his social media pages.

Yulo has credited San Jose for helping him become a more well-rounded person, saying that her presence and encouragement have enabled him to grow not only as a gymnast but also as an individual.

His growth culminated in a historic showing in the 2024 Paris Games, where he became the first Filipino to capture multiple Olympic gold medals with his triumphs in floor exercise and vault. 

Symbolic of his two Olympic gold medals, Yulo proposed to San Jose with two engagement rings — one for each hand.

“Chloe really helped win the two gold medals in the Olympics. For me, she is the gold medal of my heart, so I gave her two engagement rings,” Yulo said in Filipino in their proposal video. 

The two began dating in 2020 after San Jose, a singer and content creator, reached out to Yulo to tell him she was a fan.

Yulo and San Jose remained together through a much-publicized rift with his parents, which intensified at the height of his Olympic triumphs. 

“Neither of us could have known where that little message would take us. And from there, life became a collection of airports, competitions, hotel rooms, long training days, little adventures, big dreams, and countless moments in between,” San Jose wrote on her social media pages. 

“I got to watch you chase your dreams and you let me be beside you through the biggest moments of your life. We grew up together. We learned together. We fought for each other, protected each other, supported each other, and built a life of our own.”

Yulo vowed to stand by San Jose for the rest of their lives.

“My love, I promise to always care for you, love you, and protect you. In good times and bad, in happiness and hardship, I will choose you every day. And, by the grace of God, I will be with you for all eternity,” Yulo said in Filipino. 

Yulo returned home from Japan over the weekend after delivering the Philippines’ first two gold medals in the Asian Games.

He topped the floor exercise and vault as he finally completed his collection that includes gold medals from the Olympics, World Championships, Asian Championships, World Cup, and Southeast Asian Games. – Rappler.com
