Carlos Yulo wins first Asian Games gold after 'challenging' journey - GMA Network

Olympics, World Championships, and Southeast Asian Games — Carlos Yulo has won gold medals in all three competitions, and on Thursday, he completed his collection with an Asian Games gold.

Yulo ruled the men’s floor exercise final to claim the gold medal, giving the Philippines its first gold in this year’s Asian Games.

For Yulo, he was simply happy to have performed well despite the challenging journey he went through before competing again in Japan.

“I don’t know. I’m just really overwhelmed. I’m just really happy with my experiences. Although it’s not pleasant, but it’s really a good story,” Yulo told the POC Media in a mix of Filipino and English when asked about winning his first Asian Games gold.

“Even before I arrived here, it was really challenging. It was not that easy. Receiving this blessing from God, it’s really an honor. I take it to my heart really,” the gymnast said, adding that he dedicates the win to those who prayed for him and those who are also experiencing challenges in the Philippines.

Yulo said he gave his all in the floor exercise final.

“I’m really grateful with what happened today. Like what I said, there is no regrets in what I did today. I did what I needed to do and I gave my best. I have no what ifs and buts. That was really what I prepared for and I got the result I wanted.”

While he eyes additional medals in the vault and parallel bars finals on Friday, Yulo is hoping for one thing.

“Tomorrow, let’s just be safe,” he said, adding that he simply wants to enjoy the competition.
