The Udayagiri police have registered a case against 12 YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) activists for allegedly assaulting a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) polling agent at a polling station in Bandaganipalle village of Udayagiri mandal in SPSR Nellore district.

According to the police, the incident occurred at around 4.30 p.m. on Thursday during the ZPTC and MPTC elections. A group of 20 to 30 YSRCP activists allegedly attempted to rig votes at the polling booth and assaulted the TDP agent when he tried to stop them. A Sub-Inspector deployed for election duty intervened, brought the situation under control and dispersed the group.

Based on a complaint lodged by TDP workers on Friday, the Udayagiri police registered a case against the 12 YSRCP activists under Sections 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 191(3) (rioting) and 118(1) (causing hurt using weapons), read with Section 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
