CCTV: BJP MLA's SUV skids after tyre bursts on UP's Ganga Expressway

A BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, Chandrapal Singh Lodhi, was injured along with another person after his Fortuner met with an accident on the Ganga Expressway in the Siyana area. The accident occurred after the vehicle's tyre burst, causing the Fortuner to skid, lose control and crash into a roadside pole. Both the MLA and the other injured person are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hapur.

CCTV footage of the incident has also emerged, showing the Fortuner skidding across the highway before crashing. The accident comes amid heavy rainfall in the region, which has caused waterlogging at several points along the Ganga Expressway, including the Sonik toll plaza in Unnao.UNNAO TOLL PLAZA SUBMERGED AFTER HEAVY RAIN

In Unnao, intermittent rain for around 36 hours has caused waterlogging in several areas, with inadequate drainage adding to the problems faced by residents.

Reports from the spot indicate that water has accumulated to around 5-6 feet in some areas, with toll cabins completely submerged. The agency responsible for the expressway has deployed three generators, operated with the help of tractors, to pump out the water. A JCB has also been brought in to create a pit near the service road so that water from the toll plaza can be diverted.

People travelling from Unnao towards Prayagraj on the Ganga Expressway are reportedly waiting for the water level to fall before proceeding through the affected section.

The waterlogging has also raised concerns among commuters about vehicles becoming stranded while entering or exiting the toll plaza.

The Ganga Expressway, which stretches around 594 kilometres between Meerut and Prayagraj, has faced a similar waterlogging problem at the Sonik toll plaza during earlier spells of heavy rain.

According to local reports, water had accumulated at the toll plaza during rainfall around one to one-and-a-half months ago as well. The repeated flooding has renewed questions over drainage arrangements at the site.- Ends
