Opposition INDIA bloc MPs on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) are expected to go ahead with a planned protest march from the Parliament to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters in New Delhi in protest of alleged โ€œvote theftโ€ and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This comes amid a series of nationwide campaigns against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar overย 

Security arrangements were heightened around the Election Commission headquarters in the national capital, officials said. Security has also been stepped up at key points in New Delhi in view of protest calls issued by different organisations over the SIR exercise, they said.

The INDIA bloc leaders are expected to also meet President Droupadi Murmu to raise concerns over the SIR exercise. The protest call was issued after a meeting of 19 opposition parties on September 30. The principal Opposition party is also likely to reach out to other parties outside the INDIA bloc, like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Aam Aadmi Party, and invite them to join the planned protest march.

The Supreme Court on Monday (October 5, 2026) distanced itself from the controversial alterations made to Form 6 for registering new voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across several States, shifting scrutiny to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Security arrangements were heightened around the Election Commission headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday (October 6, 2026) in view of the INDIA blocโ€™s planned protest over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, officials said.

Security has also been stepped up at key points in New Delhi in view of protest calls issued by different organisations over the SIR exercise, they said. The heightened deployment was put in place as several organisations and opposition parties have announced demonstrations in the national capital over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.

The INDIA bloc has announced that its opposition MPs will march to the Election Commission headquarters on Tuesday and its leaders will meet President Droupadi Murmu to raise concerns over the SIR exercise.

The protest call was issued after a meeting of 19 opposition parties on September 30.
