The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) has urged the public to exercise caution and follow electrical safety measures during Deepavali celebrations to prevent accidents.
CESC has cautioned people against bursting crackers near electricity poles, overhead wires and transformers, warning that this could lead to electrical accidents. The public can contact the CESC helpline 1912 in case of electrical accidents or emergencies.
In a press release, CESC advised people to follow safety guidelines while decorating homes, shops and commercial establishments with electric lights. They should avoid overloading electrical sockets by connecting multiple appliances to a single outlet and refrain from touching electrical appliances or switches with wet hands.
It also advised people against using cables and wires with damaged insulation and urged them to use only good-quality electrical cables. Extra care should be taken while installing serial lights to ensure that electrical wires are not damaged.
CESC managing director M.S. Archana appealed to the public not to overlook safety precautions amid the festive celebrations and to celebrate Deepavali safely.
