Re: "Stock exchange vows to continue its package of major reforms", (Business, Sept 22).
We all wish SET chairman Kitipong Urapeepatanapong great success in his efforts; a strong stock market is good for the country. But there is more to the story than was told in this article.
With more than 20 years of experience as a managing director at a major international investment bank, and now a resident in Thailand, I want to offer some agreements and some counterpoints.
Things he proposes that I agree with include: 1. Attracting new-economy companies to list. But note that he is talking about infrastructure-support companies because there is still a shortage of core AI technology companies in Thailand. In my opinion, fixing the lack of domestic core technology companies requires reforming the education system from top to bottom.
