‘Charlie’s Angels’ look divine in Emmys reunion 50 years later - USA Today

LOS ANGELES – For one Emmys night only, the Angels were back in action. And looking divine.

“Charlie’s Angels” stars Jaclyn Smith, 80, Kate Jackson, 77, and Cheryl Ladd, 75, reunited on the 78th Emmy Awards stage Monday, Sept. 14, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic ABC series.

The reunion brought together the three main surviving Angels from the original series, which premiered Sept. 22, 1976. Farrah Fawcett, who left the series after Season 1, died of cancer in June 2009 at the age of 62.

Moments before presenting the Emmy for best drama series, the angels paid tribute to their friend and fellow costar, with Smith joking that "charisma doesn't mean a second season."

"And I would like; I would like to acknowledge someone not standing with us tonight. And that's my friend, Farrah Fawcett," Smith said. "... She's here, and she's here with us, and everyone's collective memory."

Kate Jackson added: "Vera was the shiniest Angel of all, and she was loved by millions of people all over the world, and she still is today. And they'll never forget her. And neither will we, and I'm sure you won't either."

"And her iconic poster lives in the minds, and the garages of many-a man," Ladd quipped.

The sensational "Charlie's Angels" Season 1 featured Smith as Kelly Garrett, Jackson as Sabrina Duncan and Fawcett as Jill Munroe. Ladd joined "Charlie's Angels" in Season 2 as Jill’s younger sister, Kris Munroe.

The "fourth Angel" stayed with the series alongside Smith for four seasons (Jackson left after Season 3), before “Charlie’s Angels” ended its five-season run in 1981.

Emmy stage reunions carry some history for the Angels.

Smith, Jackson and Fawcett last reunited at the 58th Emmy Awards in 2006 for a tribute to legendary TV producer Aaron Spelling – an appearance that included backstage drama over their planned speeches and culminated with Smith's prepared remarks disappearing from the teleprompter.

The Emmy reunion comes during a year of 50th anniversary celebrations for “Charlie’s Angels.”

Smith, Jackson and Ladd have appeared together at events including a Paley Center celebration in Los Angeles in April. Smith has published a "Charlie's Angels"-filled memoir, "I Once Knew a Guy Name Charlie."
