The judicial officer, who has been arraigned as the second accused in the Cheranalloor car crash case in which a 55-year-old man was fatally knocked down by a luxury car allegedly driven by his minor son, appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning for the second consecutive day at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the officer was interrogated at the Kochi City Police Club following a notice issued by a sub-inspector attached to the SIT.
Maintaining that he had no knowledge of the vehicle being removed from his apartment premises, the officer reportedly told investigators that his visit to the police station immediately after the accident was in his capacity as a parent and not as a judicial officer.
The Kochi City police arraigned him as the second accused on October 26, a day after the accident, amid widespread public criticism over the handling of the case. Reportedly, the police have at least three videos allegedly showing the juvenile driving at excessive speeds. In one of the visuals, he is seen driving at 103 kmph.
On October 27, the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-III, Ernakulam, issued a search warrant under Section 96 of the BNSS authorising the Circle Inspector of Police, Cheranalloor, to search the judge’s residence at Choornikkara near Aluva and seize electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops. During the search, the police also seized a premium motorcycle from the apartment.
