After many years, visitors to Muziris will be able to check out heritage locales that are spread across the region, in boats and water taxis from the coming week.
The vessels will operate from 14 boat jetties in the North Paravur-Kodungallor region on the Ernakulam-Thrissur border.
Water sports enthusiasts can choose kayaking, for which 25 single- and double-seater kayaks have been readied as part of the Muziris Heritage Project (MHP). Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan will launch the services offering package tours on Sunday (October 4, 2026) at the Thattukadavu Boat Jetty in North Paravur.
“There are being launched as part of the State government’s projects for the Muziris region. The aim is to raise the MHP to international standards, thus attracting more heritage enthusiasts, apart from domestic and foreign travellers,” said Shine K.S., managing director and chief executive officer of MHP.
The boat tours and kayaking activities would considerably help in the socio-economic uplift of youth, artistes and others from the region. Besides, the long-pending renovation of museums is set to gather pace, with the government forming committees. The aim is to transform the MHP into one of international acclaim within a year, he added.
The boat tour packages that Muziris Projects Limited would operate in the region include four-hour-long Paliam cluster and Kottayil Kovilakom cluster tours. Details of the programme can be obtained from the phone number 90208-64649.
