Chris Jones acknowledges the upcoming battle against former teammates - Chiefs Wire

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones spoke with reporters on Thursday. He acknowledged struggles against the Indianapolis Colts and the upcoming Week 3 battle against former teammates, now playing for the Miami Dolphins.

"I think the most important thing that matters is the wins and losses," said Jones. "We were able to pull through it, but we were also able to learn a lot about this team – the resiliency of the team and the core strength of the team, but there are still areas of improvement."

Kansas City held off a potential late-game loss at the Colts' game-winning drive as edge rushers George Karlaftis and Felix Anudike-Uzomah forced an incompletion.

"(De'Von) Achane is definitely a pillar of the Miami offense. I think they were able to add Malik Willis as quarterback, who put them in a good spot to be good this year," said Jones. "I think they kind of started off rocky, but that's a good offense and they're young; they're very young. They have a couple of familiar Chiefs faces over there, so I know those guys are going to be eager to play. It's going to be a competitive game."

Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and offensive lineman Chukwuebuka Godrick are former Chiefs on the Miami Dolphins roster. Gay Jr. played for the Chiefs from 2020 to 2023, while Godrick played for the franchise from 2023 to 2025; the Chiefs waived him shortly after the 2026 preseason.
