Early morning film screenings are set to return to Tamil Nadu, with the Vijay-led government allowing new Tamil releases to have shows from 6 am during their first week in cinemas.

Under the latest order, theatres can schedule five shows a day in the first week, beginning at 6 am and ending by 2.30 am. They can also screen six shows on weekends, national holidays and state holidays.

At present, theatres across Tamil Nadu screen four shows a day, with the first show beginning at 9 am. The new order will allow exhibitors to add early morning screenings for new Tamil films during their opening week.

Suriya's Scene and Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2, both scheduled to release on November 6, will be the first two films to benefit from the decision.

Early morning shows were banned by the DMK-led government after a fan died during celebrations for Ajith Kumar's Thunivu outside Rohini Silverscreen. The government had since maintained strict rules on film show timings.
