The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle, Bengaluru, V. Venkatasubramanian, along with his team, began a three-day safety inspection of the 7.5-km elevated section of Namma Metro’s Pink Line on Tuesday.
The inspection covers the elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere, comprising six stations.
“The CMRS inspection is a mandatory statutory process before the metro section can be opened for public carriage. The safety assessment will be conducted over three days before the required authorisation for commencing passenger services is considered,” a BMRCL official said.
If the section receives the mandatory safety clearance from the CMRS, BMRCL can proceed with preparations to open the stretch for passenger services.
The 21.3-km Pink Line, which has missed several deadlines, comprises a 7.5-km elevated section and a 13.8-km underground section. The underground stretch will connect Dairy Circle, M.G. Road, Shivajinagar and Tannery Road, providing a north-south metro link through central Bengaluru.
