A coastal cleanup drive was held at the Fort Kochi beach on Saturday (September 19, 2026) as part of the ‘Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar 5.0’ campaign, marking the International Coastal Cleanup Day.

The initiative was led by the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The drive at Fort Kochi was organised by Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) along with its NSS units, Sree Narayana Mangalam College, Maliankara, and Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara, according to a communication.

The campaign was inaugurated by Cusat Vice-Chancellor M. Junaid Bushiri. Muhammad Shiyas, MLA, Mayor V.K Minimol, and Shiny Mathew, councillor, Fort Kochi division, were present.
