However, the Chief Election Commissioner still faces the looming threat of dismissal, as he has stopped short of the full resignation demanded by the Cockroach Party. Ultimately, this standoff serves as a stark reminder about the necessity of an objective, neutral election commission led by an unbiased leader in a functioning democracy. Without absolute neutrality at the helm, the promise of free and fair elections remains entirely hollow. However, achieving this ideal has proven remarkably difficult across the region, including Pakistan. Allegations against the chief of the election watchdog have historically been a common feature of the political landscape in Pakistan. This persistent skepticism stems largely from the reality that the position has almost always functioned as a political appointment. Despite a constitutional safeguard designed to ensure bipartisan agreement, the reality has fallen short. No wonder hardly ever has any election in the country escaped the allegations of rigging. If we want future elections to command public trust, implement rigorous governance standards that guarantee complete independence and transparency in our public institutions.
