College football's first full week of the 2026 season had no shortage of thrilling plays, drama and, naturally, controversy.
What might the next week have in store for an encore?
Before the highest-profile games of Week 2 kick off on Saturday, Sept. 12, a slate highlighted by No. 1 Ohio State's highly anticipated trip to face No. 3 Texas, a batch of five games will be held on Friday, Sept. 11.
The quintet most notably includes No. 23 Missouri's road game against Kansas in the latest installment of the storied and perpetually heated Border War between the two schools, a rivalry dating all the way back to the Civil War. No. 25 Virginia, the only other ranked team in action on Friday, will look to build on its resounding Week 0 drubbing of NC State when it hosts coach Michael Vick and Norfolk State.
Elsewhere in the ACC, Louisville will follow up its encouraging showing in a last-second loss to No. 11 Ole Miss with a home game against Villanova, one of the top teams at the FCS level and a new entry into the Patriot League. In one of only two matchups between power-conference programs, Boston College will host Rutgers in the Eagles' annual Red Bandanna Game, with both programs recognizing the 25-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Virginia should be able to control this from the opening series. The Cavaliers are favored by more than 40 points, and the real objective is to establish offensive efficiency, build depth and escape without injuries.
Logic: Norfolk State should struggle to create explosive plays or sustain enough possessions to put pressure on Virginia. The Cavaliers turn a couple of short fields into touchdowns and pull their starters early.
This is much more dangerous than the rankings suggest. The game is in Lawrence, both teams are 1-0 and Missouri is favored by only 5½ points.
Logic: Rivalry emotion keeps Kansas within one possession, but Missouri’s overall roster depth becomes more important in the fourth quarter. The Tigers survive rather than impress.
